Many breeds do indeed have genetic problems, but the brachycephalic breeds like the Frenchies have more than most. They can’t breathe properly, for god’s sake — hence the “cute” snoring so many of them exhibit. All this is one reason why I got two Himalayan Sheepdogs from India, where the breed has very much been shaped by natural selection. They don’t all look identical, but man, are they healthy!

every bred dog will …
every bred dog will have those issues. if you want a dog with no genetic problems your going to be hard pressed to find one. even cavalier king charles’s for all of their good breeding have heart issues. if you get a well bred frenchie your risks should be relatively low ( and the breeding thing is only important if you yourself wish to breed, which a good breeder won’t allow you to do without education). sketchy breeding does result in abuses of genetics but that doesnt charactize the breed

actually we have 2 …
actually we have 2 frenchbulldogs and feed them a raw diet from natures variety and they have had no problems at all. they are nine yrs old and walk almost 2 miles a day everyday with me. if you give them the diet they need they do remarkably well. i think mine will easily live 15- 20 yrs. good luck to you.

I am a researcher …
I am a researcher by profession, so I know what breed I was looking at…small, cute, big ears… Frenchies have breathing problems, problems with overheating, digestive problems, elbow, hip and serious spinal problems, not to mention their inability to breed/give birth naturally in a vast majority of cases. They are so dang cute and have great personalities…but I maintain that it is cruel to perpetuate physical problems like they have because we like their aesthetics.

I love French …
I love French Bulldogs and looked into getting one, but decided that they had too many health issues and I didn’t feel good about perpetuating such cruelty on living things because we think they are cute.
