How much do male, pug puppies cost?

My friend wants to get a male, pug puppy but doesn’t know how much they cost. Can someone give me an estimate?

We bought a pug for 600.00 both males and females were the same price, not registered…but I have seen un registered for up to 800….tell him to research pugs first, they are very very hard to house break…it can take up to a year old before they catch on…not the smartest dog out there.

Go to your local shelter and look for a puppy there. There will most likely be a pug puppy there.

I bought a male puppy pug about 3 years ago and he was $450, although the people i bought him from just didn’t really want to deal with him so I’m not sure if I got a cheaper price or not because of that factor.

Tell your friend that it’s not the initial cost of the pug but the UPKEEP that is a killer! Can your friend afford to properly care for a dog?! Or is your friend going to be yet another moron who comes on Yahoo Answers whining for free medical advice from unqualified strangers, rather than take the dog to a vet?! Does your friend have enough money to afford yearly exams, teeth cleanings ($250), immunizations, office visits (the fee on top of all the other care), spay/neuter surgery, and any other potential health problems such as the recent pet food recall which caused pet owners by the hundreds to rush to their vets for week-long hospitalizations of their pet (3 days = $1,000 for round-the-clock care) only to have their pet die anyway?

The reason I mention this is because you are yet ANOTHER foolish person coming on here asking about the initial cost of a dog! If you can’t even afford the initial cost, or have to ask, then you can’t afford it! It is the dog’s RIGHT by law to receive proper medical care and to deny it is abuse. Your friend had better think long and hard whether or not he or she is ready for that kind of responsibility. This is not a toy we are talking about but a LIVING BEING with wants, needs, and preferences of his or her own. This is not something you set down or put aside when it becomes inconvenient.

Has your friend considered their lifestyle? Is that person gone for long hours at school or at work? A puppy is a BABY dog. Is this friend of yours going to be at home to care for the puppy? You can’t leave a puppy alone for hours. Also, until the puppy is housetrained, he or she will pee and poop all over. Your friend will be the person constantly cleaning it up. Is your friend ready for that? Puppies cry and whine and bark. Does your friend live in a house with a yard – or in a tiny condo or apartment with neighbors living in close proximity? What about the digging, scratching, and chewing of shoes and furniture and other items? Can your friend deal with that? What about the tracking in of dirt?

As you can see, cost of a puppy is the LEAST of your friend’s problems. And if your friend is so clueless that he or she doesn’t know that different dogs cost differently in different locations and by different stores, or rescue organizations, or breeders, or puppy mills, or humane societies – then he or she is hopeless! In a word: DUH!
