Jitterbug’s Sad Story (genetic sick chihuahua puppy bought from a AKC breeder)
R.I.P my precious angel! Here’s my veterinarian’s video (April 14) of my very genetically sick puppy. I bought my extra tiny teacup dream puppy Jitterbug off the internet from AKC Chihuahua breeder, Stella Smith at akc-chihuahuas.com, StellAdoraChi’s in Plymouth, North Carolina for $3,500. I live on the west coast of Canada. After receiving my tiny puppy my veterinarian diagnosed Jitterbug with: 1) severe hydrocephalus (water on the brain), 2) Atlantoaxia instability (C1-C2) (skull genetically not connected to neck), both congenital abnormalities. My vet informed me the only humane option for Jitterbug was euthanasia (put to sleep).
Email from her breeder, Stella Smith Sent: April 16/09 Hi Diana The survical instability as your vet said Chloe(Jitterbug) had is,There is no evidence published to date that the disease can be predicted by radiographic (x-ray) study,……stella ( totally ignorant statement) IT IS DIAGNOSED BY X-RAYS! Stella PROMISED me, she would refund my $3,500. in several emails. Email from Stella to my daughter, Date April 15/09 But without a doubt I asked your mom did she want a refund or a new puppy, and she did say refund and she will get it, I PROMISE.///// Then Stella changed her mind and started sending me nasty, hurtful email’s. Email from Stella, Date 25 Apr.(YOU did not return the puppy, you had her put to sleep. THEREFORE YOU ARE ENTITLED TO NOTHING…./////// ( It is NOT LEGAL or EVEN HUMANE TO SHIP a sick (dying) puppy across the US/CANADIAN border, so truly unfair of the Smith’s) /////// Stella’s puppy contract says, you get a refund if no puppy was available, WHICH THERE WAS NOT! Email from Stella, saying she did NOT have a replacement puppy, and again she would refund me.
Date 15 Apr “And I was not trying to push a puppy on you as I do not have one at this moment that I could push on you…. that is why I offered you the refund rather than just telling you when I get one please let me know which one you want…. //////
But I found out though hurtful emails that Stella doesn’t honour her word.
Stella admitted in a email, (AFTER) Jitterbug died on April 14, “I KNOW Chloe ( Jitterbug) had something wong with her. I honestly did. But I thought it was just her little foot.” //////
Then Stella deliberately lied on Rip Off Report.com and wrote (Looking at the puppy, CHLOE…. someone could have dropped her or stepped on her foot.)

And I am a bit stumbled as to is it her head making her be so unbalanced or maybe her left foot……. ‘I may take her back to the vet in a couple of weeks so they can take another look at that foot.’ ///// (Which Stella NEVER DID for Jitterbug, and then lied on Rip Off Report that I hurt her. ////// Stella never bothered to tell her vet, what she was observing about Jitterbug that wasn’t normal from birth, so Jitterbug could be THOROUGHLY examined before she sold her. Stella also refused to talk to my vet, about Jitterbug’s diagnosed genetic condition, because it wasn’t important to her. Email from Stella Apr. 15…”I probably would have helped her through until she was just lieing there….I’m thinking maybe a massage would have relieved her”…..thanks stella.///// Email April 17 Stella, “Would I have put her to sleep, Well No, I would have not…I do not want Vet records, registration papers, Nothing”….Stella ///// (That truly would of been cruel and inhumane of Stella)////
Email from Smith’s, “Surely just sending this video will be all the proof we will ever need…You just keep the x-rays, WE DEMAND this video if you want a replacement puppy”… frank smith.////// ( The Smith’s only wanted my vets video, they didn’t care about the x-ray’s or diagnosis of Jitterbug. I believe it was because they didn’t want people to see the video of a very sick precious puppy they sold to me for $3,500.US) But I sent them the digitalized x-ray’s, vet’s report, youtube video and picture’s of her deceased. I fought back against the Smith’s hurtful, nasty email’s, but Stella just told me to go to HELL! We loved Jitterbug so much we didn’t want her to die in vein, so we felt she deserved to have her story told to warn others about buying puppies from backyard breeders on the internet. We are truly thankful now that we save (rescue) Jitterbug from further suffering in Stella Smith’s care.
Jitterbug’s x-ray’s are on youtube, they show her diagnosed condition, with continuation of Jitterbug’s story. I’ve been asked permission by someone at a Veterinarian School to use Jitterbug’s youtube video’s at the school, which to us is an honour to Jitterbug. (Rawhide143)

You are correct! That was another incorrect statement by Stella, her breeder. I had owned a tiny cubby chihuahua for many years who weighed only 1lb. 14oz. until she was around 5yrs. old. Then Chickapea put on couple more ounces and finally hit the 2lb. mark. Jitterbug had a much longer body and legs then Chickapea had, and it was very obvious that Jitterbug wasn’t going to be EXTRA tiny like Stella had assured me.

I’m so sorry for the loss of your precious chi too! You are so right! Our hearts and memories will always carry our precious babies deep within. I am truly thankful Jitterbug is not in Stella’s care anymore. Through this heart wrenching experience that is the only thought that warm’s my heart.

Stella hurting me and Jitterbug won’t matter to the AKC, humane Society or anyone else and she knows this. Stella also knows that this won’t stop people from buying puppies from her either, and I know that too. But God knows all, and He does cares that Stella hurt me, lied to me, stole from me and is now lying to others.

Thank you for your kind comment! I truly feel now that even though the loss and hurt was tremendous dealing with this breeder, I’m truly thankful that I could rescue Jitterbug from further suffering in Stella’s care.

I am so sorry to hear about your misfortune with the breeder. I have a Chi, and a Jack-Chi and would not know what I would do without them.

This horrible experience, has taught me to watch websites now, that are only set up to sell nothing but puppies year around. They are only small puppy mill’s, pumping out the puppies for a profit. To do this, they have to have many adult dogs which are kept in small cages or small kennels. Some even have more then one breed that they breed and sell, and other websites have many breeds they sell for big puppy mill’s. No wonder there are so many homeless dogs dying in shelters.

I promise for every chihuahua video I watch I am going to post at the bottom to beware of “Stella Smith chihuahua breeder” and post that she sells puppies for profit and death. Stella Smith will hurt someone for $3,500., but I won’t, my family means to much to me. And right now my son is booked to have back surgery in Germany, so that is where my true priority lies now. I have faith that God will truly deal with Stella and Frank Smith for all the cruel things they have said to me and done. I am thankful now that I could save Jitterbug from further suffering. God will place her back into my arm’s again someday, she will always be in my heart.

Yes, I would win, but at what cost to my family? We live in another country. We would have to take time off work, travel expenses (air flights, hotels etc.), and I was told there could be continuances with the court, which would mean time off work, traveling back and forth etc. over and over. It’s a know fact that a person never recovers all their money suing someone. The breeder has already told me to try, it will take years to get my money back.

The postings of Jitterbug’s video’s is so she didn’t die in vain.
Hopefully it will warn other’s of backyard breeders on the net, that it’s only about the money, nothing else. This experience has truly opened my eye’s to puppy seller’s and backyard breeder’s on the net, and why they are pumping the puppies out just like small time puppy mills. It’s about the money only, not the puppies! They don’t truly care about them.
