Truth about teacup puppies?

So I have read horror stories about teacup puppies (especially yorkies) and about how many healthy problems they can have…but then there are also place telling you teacup puppies are super cute and perfectly healthy, safe, etc. Can anyone explain to me exactly what a teacup puppy actually IS and if they are honestly unsafe and inhumane or if they are fine and cute? Thank you!

When any one factor dominates breeding, other things suffer. If any dog is seen as suitable for breeding as long as it is small enough, then health will suffer.

It is like some of the sickly, fear ridden Labs that are the right size, have big, square heads, the right tapering tail, solid color, etc.

  1. tea cups are more prone to illness and various health problems as opposed to full sized breeds. However all dogs are different & there are many tea cups who have led full, happy lives. Just be aware though that there might be vet bills in your future.

  2. A teacup is a poorly bred runt, bred with another poorly bred runt.
These dogs usually do not live very long and are unhealthy.

In my opinion they ARE unsafe and while not inhumane always…it certainly is not coming from a good breeder which can lead to many problems. I do NOT think they look cute, they look really ugly.

  3. Tea cup is basically a runt bred with a runt. Yes, they do have a lot of health issues. Mills and back yard breeders will tell you anything to purchase one.

to get a tea cup of any breed they breed a runt with another runt in hopes to get another smaller puppy. the smaller they go the higher the price for the breeder but also for the owner. ya their cute and can be hidden anywhere, but as they are bred smaller the brain doesn’t shrink and many have brain bleeds, water on the brain as well as bone issues. let alone they are breeding not for health but for size and cash in the wallet before anything else. if you want a yorki just find a reputable breeder not advertising tiny or tecup sizes and pick a runt. you may or may not have a runt as an adult.

I have labs and birthed a 9z pup who by 8 months was caught up to the rest. when everyone else was born at 12-16oz. yorkies are much tinier at birth 2-4oz. is average

"Teacup" isn’t a real size. Backyard breeders and puppy mills label their sickly pups bred from runts. Runts are the unhealthiest, smallest dogs of the litter. They often live only a few years, and in that time they will clean your savings in vet bills.

They are sold for thousands of dollars, but they are definitely not worth it.

They are bred by blood-sucking leeches who suck out all your money and give you an unfortunate, sickly rat.

    It’s very sad.
