What are teacup puppies?

Are they like miniature versions of dogs like a teacup Pomeranian is a smaller version of a regular Pomeranian. Or are they really just premature puppies like this article says?

They don’t really exist. Some ppl use the term for any runts or use it in an attempt to say their litter will be smaller than the norm. None of the breed club allow the words like teacup, micro -mini, etc by their members will describing their litters It is against the Breeder code of Ethics which breeder sign to join breed club. Only ppl who use it are not worthwhile breeders & you should always run away from them unless you want to spend 1000s on vet bills while your pet suffers.

  1. They are not neccessarily premature, although the reason most breeds are called "teacup" is because they are poorly bred and raised. Only backyard breeders breed them, they are not a real breed.

A "teacup" dog is the product of a runt from one litter, bred to a runt from another litter, to make a double runt puppy. As runts are usually the dogs with the most health problems, the result is a runt pup that will most likely have severe health problems as well.

  5. They are poorly bred runts from puppy mills and backyard breeders. They are often overpriced and rarely healthy. You may well have large veterinary bills for the unhealthy dogs. They can not be bred nor bred too. There is really no such thing as a teacup anything unless it is China and has a handle.

  6. Teacup puppies are called this because they are extremely small. Like, say, a teacup chihuahua. It’s called teacup because it is even smaller than regular chihuahuas. These dogs are extremely unhealthy and I would highly recommend against getting one. My mom had a friend once that got a teacup puppy, and the puppy fell off a couch and snapped its neck.

  7. First of all "tea cups" are not real there just a really small dog its a term people use. Second of all "tea cup" dogs are not that small because of non well bred. I am a licensed breeder of chihuahuas and my 7lb chihuahua bred to a 4lb one and her puppies are now 1 year and 3 months and they barley reach 2lbs not because they were poorly bred. Because they are small dogs. Third of all any dog can break there leg or any bone in them I have a pit she fell of the couch broke her front leg. ANY dog can break a leg or a neck any bone in them. But anyways my chihuahua puppies have NOT had 1 thing wrong with them in the 1 year and 3 months they have been in this world. There just really small dogs.
